I have regularly used tools such as table saws, band saws, and chain saws for more than 40 years without incident so I was astonished when I partially amputated the tip of my left ring finger with a belt sander. While sanding, my finger barely touched the part of the belt where it runs back up into the sander. This caught my finger and drew it up into the sander and almost completely amputated the tip. All power tools are dangerous, but I always thought that the worst injury from a belt sander would be an abrasion type injury, certainly not an amputation. I think that an amputation warning label or embossed lettering on this area of the sander would prevent this from happening to someone else.
