The Tommee Tippee bottle warmer does not automatically shut off. I believe this can be a fire hazard. We went for a walk and around an hour later the warmer was still running and was without water at this time due to it being evaporated.

The Tommee Tippee bottle warmer is UL approved and safety tested by indepentent laboratories.

The results of this investigation, including construction review and testing, indicate that the product evaluated complies with the applicable requirements for Electric Household Cooking and Food Serving Appliances, UL 1026, Fifth Edition, dated January 31, 2007 and the Canadian Standards for Portable Electrical Motor-Operated and Heating Appliances: General Requirements, C22.2 No. 1335.1-93, First Edition, dated January, 1993, reaffirmed 2008 and Portable Electrical Motor-Operated and Heating Appliances: Particular Requirements for Liquid-Heating Appliances, C22.2 No. 1335.2.15-93, First Edition, dated January, 1993, revised August, 1994, reaffirmed 2008’

The bottle warmer includes a mechanical thermo switch which switches off the power to the heating element when the water/element temperature reaches the desired temperature. When the temperature falls the thermo switch will switch on the power to the heating element again and the cycle continues. The aim of the electrical construction is to keep the water within a constant temperature range.

To eliminate any risk of overheating a safety device – a thermal fuse is included within the electrical circuit. If the heating element continues to increase in temperature, without the interruption of the thermo switch, the thermal fuse – which is mounted directly on the element, will fuse and break the circuit, therefore creating an open circuit. This stops an electrical current passing through to the heating element and therefore the function of the heating element is stopped. Once this fuse is ‘blown’ the unit will not heat and cannot be used again.

The Tommee Tippee Bottle Warmer is fully compliant with all legislative requirements for consumer electrical appliances of this type sold within the USA and Canada.
