My aunt lit a jar candle on her dresser. (With absolutely nothing near or touching it) About 20 minutes later the smoke alarm outside the bedroom door went off. I thought it was a false alarm, so she turned it off and glanced in the bedroom doorway as she went by only to see a flames reflection on the bedspread. When she looked a flame about 1 foot was shooting out of the jar candle. There was so much smoke the curtains had already turned black where they laid on the cold air return. Had my smoke alarm not gone off, the room was moments of catching fire. She wet down a towel and placed it over the candle. The jar then broke, but the flame was distinguished. Close Call.
