Not sure if this is really a safety related issue or not. On my "GE" brand electric blender model # 169202, the drive gear of the blade assembly had cracked during operation and a small quantity of smoke came from the blender as the motor continued to drive the plastic gear on the square nut of the blade shaft. When the blender body was removed from the motor base small plastic fragments were visible as well as a smear of melted plastic across the square nut. This occurred while making a smoothie with frozen fruit, which must have jammed the blades. The blender was returned to Wal-Mart and was replaced under the two year warranty. It would be difficult to be injured in such an incident, and even running unattended the blender has a 3 minute automatic shut off which, I think, would prevent any fire concern from the melting plastic. I thought I would notify you of this incident in case there are other reports of problems with this product.
