This concerns an LG three door refrigerator with bottom freezer. Purchased Oct 2006 from American in Madison WI
Model :LRFC22750ST
Concern: possible house fire or danger from combusting plastics

On 4/27 in the morning we awoke to the smell of electrical "burning" or plastic melting but could not isolate it. Upon opening the refrigerator we found the light fixture in the top/center of the refrigerator melted and charred (actually bubbled and looking like toasted marshmallows) and several food items (butter, cream) hot or melted/curdled. The entire light unit is so disfigured that it is pushed away from the "ceiling" of the refrigerator and we are unsure if it can be repaired. We can see that plastic is dripped and actually fused to one of the small light bulbs and it is possible that the interior wall of the refrigerator is melted.

Ironically when we purchased this unit, friends told us of another purchaser who had had the light unit burn and melt, totally destroying the unit. We thought it was an exageration or an isolated incident. Now we see what they experienced.
