The consumer stated that she started her dishwasher at 8.30am on the “normal/heated dry” cycle. The consumer stated that the dishwasher normal cycle runs for approximately an hour and a half. She stated that approximately at 4pm the consumer returned to remove the dishes and she noticed that her counter top above the dishwasher was extremely hot. When she opened the dishwasher to remove the dishes she burnt the pointer finger on her right hand. The consumer stated that she had plastic dishes and a cutting board that melted due to the extreme heat.

The consumer stated that she removed the dishes and it took 2 hours for the dishwasher to cool down. The consumer pushed the reset button to turn off the dishwasher and closed the door. She stated that later that evening nothing was inside the dishwasher, but smoke was being emitted from the dishwasher (not specific of the location). The consumer also stated that the counter top above the dishwasher had become extremely hot again.

The consumer stated that she opened the door to insure that it was off. The consumer stated that she did not see any visible damages on the dishwasher. She stated that she did not see any visible damages on her counter top, but she is having someone come to service it.

The consumer stated that she spoke to the manufacturer and they assisted her by scheduling a service appointment for a technician to come out on 05/18/2012 for the price of $89.00. Also the representative informed her that they would provide her with a $100 voucher for the purchase of a new GE dishwasher. The consumer was unsure if she would be buying a new dishwasher.

The consumer feels that this product should be investigated due to the fire hazard it poses.
