GE High Efficiency Washer Model WCVH6260HWW Serial Number AM2050247 installed new August of 2007 was reported to GE Consumer Relations as a product safety issue for fires.
A case number [REDACTED] was opened by GE and later disregarded as an out of warranty product despite having a fire risk.

The fire risk occured when after only 5 years the basket bearing failed. This resulted in the basket tumbler unit to rock back and forth. The rubber gasket between the washer basket tumbler and access door heats up from friction during the spin cycle and begins to smoke thus presenting a fire risk. If the consumer is not home to monitor wash cycles the fire could spread without consumer knowledge while they are away from the home or sleeping.

The estimated cost to repair the washer was $1300 and provided by a GE appliance repair service which is higher then a new unit. GE was only willing to provide a minimal discount on another GE unit and was not concerned about fire risks.

The washer will be scrapped on 8/17/2012 and replaced by a non-GE made appliance.
