I am writing to you regarding a claim we made to LG regarding a 2006 dryer that burst into flames in our home. Attached is a letter we sent to the Product Liability Assistant Manager, a report from the Mequon Fire Department who responded to the fire, a notice of claim as well as photographs and other correspondence.

The lack of accountability by LG is beyond arrogant and our interaction with them unprofessional. Since no one died or there wasn't significant damage to our home, according to LG, all is well. I would respectively requesting that someone on your staff investigate or at least make a call to LG's Product Liability Assistant Manager seeking two things; a prompt independent evaluation of the faulty dryer switch which the fire department found after taking the appliance apart. I would like documentation of this product defect should another family experience this and have even worst consequences. In addition, we are seeking compensation for the loss of a thousand dollar dryer and two hundred dollars of clothing. Not to mention time and clean-up.

They contend that the fire was caused by lint but the fire department clearly identified a faulty switch. We were told that an LG engineer reviewed the photographs (no physical examination was conducted) and it was his determination that the problem was due to lint. We requested to speak to the engineer and were told that he spoke Korean so unless we spoke Korean that would be impossible. Really!!

As you can see from the correspondence, they would prefer to deal with your office as oppose to working with us and taking responsibility for their product defect. I am very concerned that this could happen to another family with much greater consequences and want documentation to demonstrate that we did everything within our power to avoid future harm.

I'm hopeful that inquiries from you office may put them on notice and result in a mutually beneficial resolution. We truly appreciate your time and consideration.
