We have a fixed-side Oeuf Sparrow crib that we purchased in September 2010. During my son's nap, he was able to pull off the top panel of the side panel of the crib, causing all the side spindles to come loose, and he then fell out of the crib. At that point he was screaming that he had hit his head. I should add that my son is VERY small at 5th percentile for his age and not strong. The nature of this defect meant that he also could have been strangled by the loose spindles, which splayed.

On closer inspection and comparison to my daughter's crib by a different manufacturer, I see that this is a very defective design. The only thing securing the entire side panels of the crib to the headboard and footboard are small beads of WOOD GLUE. No screws. This wood glue obviously had dried to the point that the whole side panel was not secured to the headboard except by a vertical dowel. My son, three years old, therefore was simply able to lift the top rail of the side panel, which made all the spindles come loose, and fall out. I have a succession of pictures showing the exact nature of this defective design, which is all the more surprising given the high price tag of this high end designer. I cannot believe that there are no screws holding the side panels and end panels together to ensure the structural integrity of the crib.

My daughter's crib, by a less expensive manufacturer, has screws that secure the side panels of the crib to the headboard and footboard.
