I purchased a Jenn-Air wall oven/microwave combo along with a gas cook top on 10/15/2004 when I remodeled my kitchen. In June 2005 the oven door feel off while my 13 year old daughter was baking. Fortunately she was not injured and door was not damaged. A factory authorized repair service was contacted and the technician replaced the hinges on 7/1/2005. Approximately 5 years later, the door fell off again. Again, no one was injured and the door was not damaged. We reseated the door in the hnge pins according to the instructions in the operator's manual and installation manual. Now, 5 years later, the door fell off again, but this time the glass shattered into a million pieces.
I filed a complaint with Jenn-Air.
They stated that the door is not replaceable, but repairable if the parts are available. I am doubtful that all of the required parts are available. Anyway, do I want this door back on my oven?? When researching this problem, I noticed that there have been plenty of reports of the oven door falling off and I am sure Jenn-Air has even more that we don't know about.
This product is a serious safety problem and should have been recalled. There is a chance of injury due to the weight of the door falling on a leg or foot, serious burns from a hot door, and danger from shattered glass. Jenn-Air needs to take responsibility for the safety of their customers and rectify the problem by replacing the product with a safe door.
