The wooden slats on our bunk bed are defected because of the blemishes in the wood that the manufacturer tried to fill with some type of caulking/ filler to hide them, but you can clearly see them on all the slats. We had one break in half from the bottom of the top bed and hit my daughter in the head while laying on the bottom bed. It was the 2nd from the one located close to the head of the bed. She had a scratch on her face from it, so I did first aid with cleaning and bandage. I have seperated the beds because I don't believe they're safe as bunk beds. Also, the mattresses have sharp plastic pieces poking out of sides and along seams, and are also dangerous. I cannot afford to replace them.
