I have five sets of Green Sprouts "Fresh Baby Food Glass Cubes (2 oz, 4 pack)". I purchased these all within the past few months. I have been using them since then with no problems until Nov. 4, 2015 when one of them spontaneously exploded right next to my baby when I was feeding him. This is extremely dangerous as there were glass shards everywhere including on his feeding tray, which he could have easily ingested while feeding or cut his fingers with. I am very surprised and upset that this happened. The explosion must have occurred due to defective glass or a flaw in the manufacturing process since I have always used these cubes according to the instructions given for the product. I contacted the manufacturer, Green Sprouts, and they asked me for the code on the bottom of the tray. After receiving that information, they confirmed that the product was defective. This is the information I received from [REDACTED], Customer Care Associate at Green Sprouts: "Product Development has been in touch with me regarding the defective cube, and it is indeed a manufacturer defect." As a consumer, I do not understand why they continue to sell this product since they know that it has a manufacturing defect. There are several other consumers who have also commented that the same product they purchased is defective. Please advise me on this matter – isn't it illegal for a company to continue to sell a product that they know has a dangerous manufacturing defect? They are obviously more concerned with profitability than safety, and this is disturbing since most of their products are for babies.

Product Description: Green Sprouts Glass Baby Food Cubes, 2oz.
Report Submitted Date: 11/11/2015

To Whom It May Concern:

Thank you for notifying us of the consumer report filed by [REDACTED] regarding our Glass Baby Food Cubes on November 11, 2015. Our customer care team has been in communication with [REDACTED] before and after the report was filed, and we have worked with her since to resolve her individual case.

My mother, our founder, started i play. 33 years ago out of love and concern for the wellbeing of her children, as well as that of others’ children. One of our basic principles is that our products are healthy and safe for babies. We place baby’s point of view as a number one priority in our product research, design, testing, and manufacturing processes. We have consistently been ahead of the curve as far as removing potentially harmful chemicals from our products before regulators have required it because we would rather err on the side of caution.

We dedicate a great deal of resources to testing and quality control to ensure that our products are healthy and safe. All of our products are tested for and adhere to all CPSIA regulations for product composition and materials requirements, as well as physical and mechanical soundness. We test our glass cubes to withstand heat, cold, sudden temperature changes, exposure to a variety of foods, and repeated drops from three feet off the ground.

As these are glass containers, they are intended for adult use only. The breakage is obvious upon occurrence, so the adult can remove the broken glass to avoid contact with the baby. Thankfully no injury to any adult or child has been reported. We believe this is an isolated issue that is very limited in scope and should require close monitoring but no further immediate corrective action.

We are continuing to monitor this situation and will work to determine any necessary next steps.

I have reviewed the report of harm. This comment relates to the report of harm. The information contained in this comment is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge, information, and belief. I am authorized to make comments on behalf of i play. inc.
