We have a Kitchenaid double oven, Model number KEBC207KBL05, serial number XT1711296, that was installed when we built our home in December 2006. The oven was set to reach 350 degrees on Saturday evening and the outside door glass suddenly exploded, sending small fragments of glass into our living room, down halls, into our appliance center, all over our kitchen at distances as far as 40 feet away. It sounded like a gunshot and to say it scared us to death is an understatement. Had my grandchildren been standing there it could have blinded them. My husband and I didn't suffer serious injury but we too were covered in glass sustaining minor knicks and cuts. After researching this I have learned that it is more common than I knew. I have contacted Kitchenaid and have a service repairman coming out to inspect the oven on Wednesday. Whirlpool Corporation Safety Department had the nerve to say that the manual says to keep children away from appliances when I mentioned that my grandchildren could have been injured had they been here. Ridiculous.
