Incident Details

Incident Description: I purchased a Maytag Gas Range Oven(Gemini) in early 2007, Model MGR6775BDS, Serial 11722825JX. On March 11, 2012, I had a 8 oz cup of water next to my gas range. I accidently knock the cup spilling some water onto my counter top and the top of the gas range. Some water spilled into the control knobs of the gas jets. At the moment of the spill I grabbed a paper towel to pick up the spill and the electric ignitor activated without the knob turning. The electric ignitor was active for approximately 3-4 seconds, while I attempted to turn the knob to shut of the ignitor, without success because the knob was already in the off position. It was at this time a flame burst out of the knob while arm was above it, causing damage to the sleeve of my bathrobe. I was able to contain the flame and shut of the main breaker to my electrical panel, avoiding a potential tragedy to my family and myself.
