Incident Details
  • Incident Description: Maytag Gemini gas range (approximately 3 years old) turns its ovens on by itself, usually in the middle of the night. This took us a while to figure out as it is located in our second home which is only used 9 weeks a year (summer). For a while, we just thought we needed to cut power and reboot, but that doesn't solve the problem. As we reviewed our winter gas bills, the gas expense was hundreds of dollars higher the winter of 2010-11 (we threw the breaker panel this past winter). To our horror we realized the oven was on most if not the entire winter at 350 degrees. Now Sears is going to install a new circuit board, (for $500) but are we to trust the new one anymore that the original one that was just about brand new? The stove/oven has probably been used a total of 100 times over the past three years. This is extremely dangerous and could easily start a fire. I'm surprised we didn't lose our entire house the winter of 2010.
