59 YOF turned on top oven broiler of electric double oven to temperature of 400 & was letting it warm up when she heard popping sound. She saw fire & sparks inside oven & turned it off. When oven cooled down she saw that broiler coil had broken into pieces.

Incident Description: I turned on the top oven broiler to the temperature of 400. I rarely use this as a broiler. I was letting it warm up when I heard a popping sound. I looked at the oven and saw a fire and sparks. I turn the oven off. When it cooled down I saw that the broiler coil had broken into pieces. The oven was empty at the time. I went on the web and googled maytag Gemini oven fire and saw that others had similar experiences. Someone has even posted a video of this experience. It seems dangerous.
