- Incident Description: I have a kitchen Aide stove purchased 3 yrs ago from Sears, these past 3 weeks my husband mentioned smelling gas having checked the knobs on range all where in off position, Soon after I smelled hint of gas one day I notice one knob was extremely hard to turn, on Saturday I began to make breakfast then I notice another knob was just as Hard to turn, when I got closer to look I could smell gas (note all knobs in off position,) Im not one to get headaches but noticing now when I was in kitchen seem to be when my headache would occur, I put a lighter to see if gas was on sure enough there was a small flame on two of burners, There was no way to turn knobs in any directions I called sears I called kitchen aide company, called my local gas. and electric company not knowing where this leak was coming from the only company to come out same day was gas electric after being checked no leak on my gas electric company but my stove was tagged danger out of serve due to DEFECTIVE KNOBS tech said never seen that happen but I'd need to have a repair person come out. I couldn't get anyone out until 6 days later was the first opening July 31, meanwhile my gas is off stove tagged danger, Sears service guy came out, first thing he said all the knobs unable to turn not just the two I had notice, service guy turned gas on noticing the two leaks at burners which was why gas company turned gas switch off, after his puzzled look and statement that he hadn't come across this before, I told him I felt this is a dangerous situation not being able to turn knobs on or off to close gas, he shook his head in agreement, There was no fixing the stove on this day, other than to turn gas off again replace and order five new parts (gas valve) defective knobs cost of 591.45 which may take 10 days to arrive, I have expressed my concern that this is was safety issue all along, which he agreed he didn't want me to quote his statement I can understand his not wanting any issues with his job, but the subject of contacting Kitchen Aide was mentioned for reimbursement as he mention concession ( believing this was faulty safety issue) at least for some cost of the parts which were costly, I have called several times to contact kitchen Aide spoke once to representative since July 31 all the calls go to answer machine, Here is the information if I can help anyone else avoid the headache of a safety defect.
