A 53 YOM, a 52 YOF & their 9 year old daughter experienced itching on their body & also suffered respiratory issues. The mesh that covered the mattress cover was coming apart. She found that fire retardant layer around the foam was causing the itching on their body.

  • Incident Description: (06/2014) The consumer stated her husband started itching on the upper part of his body.The consumer and her daughter also had itching on their body. They were also having respiratory issues. In August of 2014, the consumer put dark curtains in her bedroom. IN September of 2014 the consumer noticed fiberglass on her nightstand when the sun came thru crack in curtains. (9/2014)The consumer stated that she washed the mattress cover, she noticed that the mesh that covered the mattress was coming apart. The consumer used a flashlight on the mesh cover and saw shiny threads on the mesh. This is when she discovered that the fire retardant layer around the foam was fiberglass which cause the itching on their body. Because of laundering the washable cover. The fiberglass is in everything in her home. All of her clothes have to be replaced. It also got into the air conditioning in house. The fiberglass stuck to the wood in her home. The consumer moved out of the home on September, 2014. She has not moved back in. She is living in a travel trailer on the property. There were no warning labels, no date of manufacturer, nor was there an import delivery date on the mattress. There was a GCC included per the consumer. ((/2014) The consumer contacted Walmart and was advised that they did not have any responsibility for the product and referred the consumer to the manufacturer. (09/2014) the consumer contacted the manufacturer and was advised that she may have purchased before the warning label was put on the product. Since it is only sold online this has not been verified. The mattress tested and it was verified by the insurance company for the mattress manufacturer that the layer is fiberglass and was found throughout the house by the insurance company.
