Incident Details
  • Incident Description: I purchased a home with the Gemini® 30" Double Oven Freestanding Gas Range by Maytag in it two years. I have used this range without incident until yesterday. I baked and turned the oven off upon leaving the house. When I returned a hour later the lower oven was on full blast and the entire unit was too hot to touch - almost red hot. It would not turn off despite hitting cancel multiple times. I called my handyman who had to use hot pads and rags to pull it from the wall and unplug it. When plug back in the lower oven heats rapidly to a high temp. The wall, counters and surrounding areas were warm to touch. it took 15+ minutes for unit to cool. I'm so lucky I came back when I did - it def would have caused a fire. My handyman guessed the control unit was bad but why it comes on when not prompted is a mystery and incredibly dangerous. I'm wondering if others have had this problem and if there is a recall.
