- Incident Description: The induction stovetop turned itself on to its highest power setting without the control knobs being moved away from the off (straight up) position. Turning the knobs would then sometimes change the setting, but never could turn it off.
If a pan had been left on the burner and we weren't home, the house could easily have burned down.
After turning it off at the circuit breaker I turned it back on to see if that helped. The stove started beeping and the digital burner displays showed "Er" and then started flashing and again turned on the highest settings (Powerburst). I turned it off at the breaker for good.
I have videos of the misbehavior.
Fortunately I purchased the 5 year extended warranty from BestBuy and they are supposed to come repair it. However, given what is obviously a design flaw, the stove must be considered an ongoing hazard.
I looked online and see that there was a previous recall of similarly designed control panels. Apparently they haven't really fixed the design, and this model should be recalled as well. I would like to get my money back and buy a different brand without this hazardous history.
