Report Summary

Consumer has pH regulator for the pool. Regulator uses muriatic acid and chlorine in separate compartments. Control board that manages the doses, had caught fire and burned. Manufacturer replaced it, but that burned as well. No injuries. Consumer states this is fire hazard.

  • Incident Description: I own and use a Pentair IntelliPH acid dose for my swimming pool to disperse muriatic acid to manage PH levels. This is connected to both a Pentair EasyTouch automation controller as well as a Intellichlor Salt Water Chlorine Generator. On 2 separate occasions the board inside the Pentair IntelliPH and EasyTouch caught fire and burned. Pentair replaced the products under warranty with what I had hoped was an improved version that doesn't catch fire. This is not the case. This most recent replacement burned as well. The product was being used as instructed by the manufacturer. This could have started a fire on the outside of my home. No injuries occured.
