Report Summary

44 YO consumer got a new mattress and removed cover to wash. This released fiberglass all over the house. Other mattresses also released fiberglass. Consumer, 15 YO and 12 YO children, 41 YO husband and other person were all affected by the fibers floating.

Incident Details

Incident Description: We got a new mattress and were going to give away our old mattress. We removed the cover to wash it and then replaced it. We helped a friend load it into his vehicle, and later he called because his clothes were covered in fiberglass shards. The cover had a zipper, and there was no indication that we were not supposed to remove the cover. We then examined the other mattresses in our home and realized that both of our children's mattresses had been shedding glass fibers into our home. Both of our children have respiratory symptoms, and the clean up is a huge, expensive, stressful project.
