Report Summary

Consumer had a memory foam mattress and removed the zipper cover to wash it. A plume of fiberglass came from mattress and rendered home unlivable. 2 YOM visited ER for wheezing and cough after exposure. There are no labels on mattress concerning this.

Product Description: The mattress is a 12 inch Signature Design Chime Memory Foam Mattress by Ashley Furniture. It is white. It is a Queen sized mattress. The other identifying marks (upc etc) is likely on the tag. The mattress is in our home which is not safe to enter right now without being covered in fiberglass.

Incident Description: My family purchased a memory foam mattress from Ashley Furniture in 2019. Last week we removed the zipper cover to wash the cover. Without warning- a plume of fiberglass was released rendering our home unliveable and covered in millions of tiny shards of fiberglass! My two year old toddler has spent several hours in the Emergency Room dealing with wheezing and a horrible cough after exposure. There are ZERO warning labels on this mattress against removing this cover! We have relocated to a hotel while we search for any plan on how to proceed. This is a nightmare.
