Incident Details
  • Incident Description: Good morning, Can we send this to the entire [REDACTED] group? I think [REDACTED] should be notified as well. I am sending you a video of a lithium ion battery fire that occurred in my town. The man ordered this battery for his ARLO home security camera. He opened the package and it immediately off-gassed and went to flame. You can see he carried the flaming battery out of his house and called my cell phone. He asked the question, “what if this had been two hours later and I was in bed sleeping?” I think we in the fire service are entering a conflagration period we are woefully unprepared for. [REDACTED] Fire Chief

Comments from the Manufacturer/Private Labeler
  • Arlo Technologies, Inc: The complained of battery is not a battery manufactured or sold by Arlo Technologies, Inc. This is a knock-off battery that advertises its compatibility with Arlo cameras, but it is not compatible due to safety concerns and lack of approved testing by Arlo. Based on the pictures provided in the CPSC complaint, we believe the battery is manufactured by a company named Feirsh. See Feirsh's Amazon listing here: https://www.amazon.com/Feirsh-Rechargeable-Batteries-2440mAh-Compatible/dp/B08NPJCKZ2/ref=sr_1_13?crid=ERXVXYW5B72T&keywords=arlo+compatible+battery+un3480&qid=1678149345&sprefix=arlo+compatible+battery+un3480%2Caps%2C136&sr=8-13 . Feirsh is not associated with or sanctioned by Arlo. Arlo recommends to its customers that they NOT use non-Arlo batteries. Arlo has, without success, attempted to convince Amazon to remove listings for knock-off batteries that tout their compatibility with Arlo cameras, but that are not sold or sanctioned by Arlo, because these batteries often can be unsafe, as demonstrated by the present complaint.
