- Incident Description: There is a product called blendjet.com or Blendjet 2. It is a cylinder portable blender that you can make fruit drinks, proteins, shakes, etc. with. The blender will operate by a simple push the button which is on the side of the blender and is easy to activate. The blender will operate without the lid on the top of the blender. The blades are extremely sharp. The manufactures error proofing feature is that the arrows have to align at the bottom of the plastic cylinder to the base in order to operate. Also, you can hold down the button for three seconds, and it will not operate unless you hold it down again. So the biggest problem I have with this product is that now I see is being marketed to children and the styles they have for this product include the [REDACTED] characters. Children are always sticking their hands in these type of containers, and I believe that this is not effectively error approved. I was on an error proofing expert team for [REDACTED] and I worked in Safety and crashworthiness and participated in a lot of child safety activities. I purchased one of these blenders for myself but after using, it will not purchase for my children because of my grand children. I would be extremely concerned about my grandchildren, putting their hands in this blender I am writing to you to prevent accidents with children. This product is being advertised without any safety risks identified and smaller, children were in the commercial, drinking out of the entire container which included the base and could easily activate. I’ve bumped it numerous times and activated it. This product is not error proofed. While this product is very unique and is portability there are other designs that lock out peoples hands with the lids so that no one is in advertently cut by the blades. I think this is an irresponsible design and definitely should not be marketed to children, and I would like to hear from your organization about what you will do based on my complaint. I am only submitting this complaint, in order to protect children from a catastrophic event with getting severely cut by this blender. I already lodged a complaint with the manufacturer@blendjet.com but I don’t see them doing anything and I again was very upset when I saw this marketed to children.

One of the safety features we built into the BlendJet 2 is our patented Lock Mode, a first for blenders, which enables you to lock the BlendJet when it is not in use for safekeeping. The BlendJet also has a detection element that prevents operation when the jar is removed and the blade is exposed. Of course, just as you would with any product with sharp edges or a blade, we always encourage caution and have several warnings on the insert inside of every BlendJet to keep out of reach of children. We also advise not to let children use it unattended, and that adult supervision is necessary at all times. Thank you.
