Report Summary

46 YOM consumer's instant tent caused his fingers to become pinched between center hub. The fingers returned to normal, but one was swollen for a week. Consumer treated injury by himself. This mechanism is now widespread amongst manufacturers.

  • Incident Description: I'd like to report a safety issue with a popular mechanism used by "instant tent" products, such as the Core 9 Instant Cabin. Two of my fingers were pinched between the center hub that resulted in them becoming disfigured but thankfully returning to "normal" looking a few hours later (but one has remained swollen even 7 days later). Had a fellow camper not helped, it would have taken me longer to get the fingers released. Furthermore, he initially moved the tent poles in the wrong direction that added additional pressure onto my fingers. If I did not stop him, there might have been a possibility for some serious injury, such as bones breaking or fingers getting severed. Core is not the only tent manufacturer who uses the same or similar mechanism.

  • If yes to any, explanation: Tent is in perfectly good condition. Used it for the 2nd or 3rd time since purchase. A momentary distraction during assembly found my fingers at the center hub, and once somebody helped erect the tent, the hub clamped my fingers in place
