Incident Details
- Incident Description: I have been using a Coolsense mattress for barely two years, rotating as recommended by manufacturer on a supportive frame. We move our mattress to check on under-bed storage and everything we've stored is sparkling like Christmas, twinkling with spikes of fiberglass. My cat climbs around under our bed and I'm horrified thinking about how much she must have inhaled or gotten herself hurt with. She's had issues with balding spots and itchy skin, and I've been treating her for allergies only to realize it's probably fiberglass hurting my pet. The company has no direct number to contact as far as I've been able to find, and I'm beyond upset.

Comments from the Manufacturer/Private Labeler
- PPJ, LLC d.b.a. Customatic Beds: While fiberglass is an approved fire retardant material for mattresses by the US government, this was used in our initial production of this product but we have since moved away from it.
Since 2007, all manufacturers of mattresses in the U.S. have been required by law to include materials that act as a fire retardant in their products. Over the years, manufacturers have used several different materials inside the mattress for this purpose. Some mattresses are designed with a cover that can be removed, but some, like Coolsense mattresses, have zippered covers that should not be removed. It’s important to follow the instructions included with each purchase.
While fiberglass is an approved fire retardant material for mattresses by the US government, this was only used in our initial production of this product. We have since implemented changes in 2022 so that all of our products are now produced 100% fiberglass free.

Product was modified before incident?:
- If yes to any, explanation: I've lost the packaging and inserts as it's been two years, but that's hardly the lifespan of a mattress. Only recently did I notice it leaking fiberglass everywhere.
