Incident Details
  • Incident Description: We received a secondhand Snoo bassinet from a friend which included an instruction manual, sleep sacks, and all necessary items. We began using the Snoo. Shortly after the Snoo app recommended leg lifters, we started using them to elevate the head of the bassinet and try to relieve our infant’s congestion. The first night that we used them, we awoke to the sound of our infant’s breathing monitor alarming. She was not breathing and not responsive. We quickly unzipped the Snoo sack to find that her body had slid down in the bed but the arm band had not - causing it to strangle her. It was pressed against her neck and obstructing her airway. After unhooking the band, she began screaming and breathing again. This whole event was silent. If it weren’t for her breathing monitor, we believe she would have died due to the failure of Happiest Baby to acknowledge the dangers of using the leg lifters with the original style of sleep sack. There are two different types of Snoo sleep sack. Until this event I had no idea that different types of Snoo swaddles existed and I was unaware that there could be any danger associated with the old style of sleep sack in combination with the elevation the leg lifters cause. After reading reviews, I’ve learned that I am not the only one whose baby this has happened to. The Happiest Baby company states that either type is safe to use with the leg lifters. However, there are multiple reports of infants being almost strangled by the original style of sleep sack and there is my report of my infant almost dying due to it.
