- Mirama Enterprises Inc. dba Aroma Housewares Company: RE: Report ID #20240503-6CE89-4716852
U.S. CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION:
The following is in response to Report ID #20240503-6CE89-4716852,
Aroma Rice Cooker & Food Steamer Model ARC-150SB, cULus certificate #E132091.
Aroma Housewares has been an industry leader in household small kitchen appliances for over 46 years. Aroma receives, investigates, and responds to any and all claims with the utmost attention and diligence. Our manufacturing team maintains strict quality control and assurance procedures, subjecting all products to robust testing to meet and exceed the requirements established by UL or FDA.
After receiving the email notice from CPSC on 5/22/2024, we immediately reached out to the submitter [REDACTED] through email to [REDACTED] and by phone to [REDACTED]. Our Customer Service team continued reaching out to him in the following few days until we received his response on 5/27/2024, which consisted of a brief incident description and photos of the Rice Cooker and severed Power Cord. Based on the information provided, we were able to ascertain two significant pieces of information. Firstly, the Manufacturing Code (M61308178) on the unit means this appliance could have been in service for more than 10 years. Secondly, there appears to be a large dent on the housing in the vicinity of the Power Cord Bushing, which suggests the Rice Cooker had experienced a significant external impact previously. Unfortunately, the Power Cord image was too blurry to be able to make any determination of possible causes for tripping the breaker. However, as a courtesy, we offered the submitter a brand new replacement in exchange for returning the defective one back to us for testing purposes. The submitter has yet to send the unit in, but once received we will further analyze the unit and find out what might have actually caused the severing of the Power Cord.
We acknowledge that over the course of extended services, due to wear and tear and frequent twisting or bending, a power cord may become deteriorated and frayed. As an Important Safeguard in our Instruction Manual we do advise our customers: “Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Contact Aroma customer service for examination, repair or adjustment.” Product safety and customer’s satisfaction are at the forefront of our corporate philosophy and areas where we are continually striving for excellence.
The undersigned declares and verifies that the information in this response is true and accurate to the best of his knowledge. Further, the undersigned certifies that he intends, in good faith, to assist the Commission by providing any information requested to review the claim.
Respectfully Submitted,
