Comments from the Manufacturer/Private Labeler
  • Rad Power Bikes LLC: Rad Power Bikes strives for safety 100% of the time, and we are deeply disappointed that this customer experienced this incident and relieved to hear that no one was injured. Rad uses premium, industry-leading battery cells and the highest quality battery packs that are tested to UL standards. Rad's bike manuals also provide best practices regarding battery maintenance and use and owner's manual for the bikes caution riders, "If your battery doesn't seem to be charging normally, is taking longer to charge than expected, or you're experiencing substantial reduction in range, discontinue use and contact Rad Power Bikes Product Support." The owner's manual also contains a specific "WARNING" section that states that "Using a damaged battery or charger can damage additional components or create a fire hazard. Stop using your battery and charger and contact Rad Power Bikes immediately if any of the following occur: . . . Your battery will not fully charge ...after the battery has been charging long enough." The manual further states "Store any damaged or potentially damaged battery or charger in a safe, dry location away from the house and other flammable materials/structures and, as soon as possible, recycle or otherwise dispose of it according to local rules." It appears the consumer's battery had ongoing charging issues and per the owner's manual, the battery use should have been immediately discontinued.
