Report Summary

41 YOF and 39 YOM consumers' electric range stopped working and began smoking. It melted from inside and tech confirmed melting and charring of electrical terminal. Also, knobs are very sensitive and caused small fires. For this, stove had a recall. No injuries.

  • Incident Description: 1. Oven Smoking & Melting Internally (Electrical Fire Hazard) Recently, the stovetop stopped working and began smoking. The unit started melting from the inside, and we could smell burning electrical components. A Samsung technician inspected the unit and confirmed that an electrical terminal inside had melted and charred. This occurred internally and was not caused by user error. 2. Fire Hazard from Knobs Turning On by Themselves Shortly after purchase, the knobs would spin on their own, turning the burners on without being touched. This caused multiple small fires when items on the stovetop accidentally ignited. I contacted Samsung in 2021, but they refused to fix the issue. Much later, Samsung issued a recall for the knobs, admitting this was a known issue, so I don't have a lot of faith in their ability to address safety concerns.

  • If yes to any, explanation: The terminal area began smoking and melting under a covered/plated area on the oven. We needed to ensure that whatever was causing this was put put out for our safety, so we took the metal plate off and discovered what is pictured in the upload provided.
