I am filing a formal complaint regarding the INMO AIR3 smart glasses due to a severe overheating, burn, and potential fire hazard. During normal operation, the arm of the glasseswhere the battery and internal electronics are housedreaches scalding temperatures. I have captured thermal imaging showing the surface of the device reaching 153.0F (67.2C). This temperature is significantly above safe limits for skin contact and presents an immediate risk of severe thermal burns.
Furthermore, given the extreme heat generation, I am deeply concerned about the risk of the internal lithium-ion battery experiencing thermal runaway, which could lead to an ignition or explosion directly next to the user's face and eyes. The manufacturer's own documentation explicitly warns that overheating "may damage the device, cause battery swelling/leakage, or even explosion," indicating the catastrophic nature of this hazard.
3. Inadequate Manufacturer Mitigation
It appears the manufacturer is already aware of this dangerous thermal issue. The product design includes an aftermarket-style foam sticker placed along the inner arm of the glasses, exactly where the heat is concentrated and where the device rests against the wearer's head. This foam strip appears to be a superficial attempt to insulate the user from the extreme heat rather than engineering a safe thermal management system or addressing the underlying electrical fault. This mitigation is entirely inadequate for a device reaching 153.0F and fails to protect consumers from the severe burn risks.
4. User Vulnerability and Context of Use
I utilize these smart glasses as an assistive device due to nerve damage that impairs my hearing and physical sensation. Because my physical sensation is diminished, I am at a significantly higher risk for severe, deep-tissue burn injuries, as my body cannot rely on standard pain reflexes to detect the escalating heat of the device against my skin. Wearable technologies must adhere to strict thermal safety limits, particularly because they are frequently used by vulnerable populations who may not immediately perceive thermal hazards.
5. Requested Action
I urge the CPSC to investigate the INMO AIR3 smart glasses for severe thermal and fire hazards. The manufacturer's apparent awareness of the issueevidenced by the application of an insulating foam stickerwithout issuing a recall or properly addressing the thermal failure is highly concerning. I request that the CPSC evaluate this device for a potential mandatory recall to prevent serious burns, battery ignitions, or facial injuries to other consumers.
