  • Incident Description: When I was retrieving something that fell under bed with a flashlight, I noticed shiny fabrics all over carpet shedding off of the mattress. When I tried to pick it up, I realized it was fiberglass. The bed is a Purple 4 Mattress manufactured and sold by Purple Innovation LLC. I purchased it on July 5th 2019 on manufacture's website. My partner and I are the only persons who use this product and were not injured due to this defect. The fiberglass is isolated to the underside of the bed and I do not see any on the top part or the bedsheets. I inspected the mattress tag because when I purchased the mattress, I wasn't aware of Purple using fiberglass in their mattress products. When I checked the mattress tag, the use of fiberglass is not listed at all. The only internal materials listed are GEL PAD, POLYURETHANE FOAM PAD, POLYESTER FIBER BATTING, and INNER SPRING UNIT. I am mostly upset as the fiberglass was not disclosed, the mattress has not been damaged, and is unable to be opened (no zipper), but still is shedding fiberglass causing a health hazard that needs to be remediated.
