There is a Koala Care's Baby changing table being used to change baby and toddlers diapers. After changing my 2.5 year old diapers, I went to close the changing table and the solid steel changing table fell back down immediately and slammed into my elbow bone. There was no warning sign and the changing table is still currently not working. This defective changing table could hit a child's head and cause serious injury or death. Comments from the Manufacturer/Private Labeler
  • Koala Kare is committed to being an innovator in childcare products, with safety being our highest priority. Based on the limited information provided in the CPSC notice, we cannot conclusively determine why the door of the changing station did not remain closed when the patron attempted to close it. Nevertheless, based on many years of experience manufacturing and selling changing stations, we can confidently surmise several possible causes: 1. Our products are installed in public facilities and the unit may have been vandalized. 2. The product is designed with a pneumatic shock that aids in opening and closing the door of the unit. Over time, the shock’s effectiveness will diminish and it will eventually require replacement. Depending on the usage frequency of the product (opening and closing the door), the shock’s lifespan will vary. It is therefore incumbent upon the facility to check the product on a regular basis, which will reveal when there is a need to replace the shock. We provide inspection criteria with the product on initial sale and on our website. 3. The product might have been improperly installed. We manufacture commercial products that are installed in public restrooms. It is the responsibility of the facility to inspect and clean the product on a daily basis, and ensure the product opens and closes smoothly. Safety is our number one priority and we make every effort to communicate to the owners of our products proper care and maintenance, including through our installation instructions, website, replacement part videos, outreach to the facility management community and advertising.
